'Leopards' invited to 'Sportivate' session
Hampton Netball Clubs U16's junior team 'Leopards' were invited by ex England player Alex Astle to attend
the final Sportivate session at Thomas Deacon Academy in September. Alex had been running these netball
training sessions throughout the summer holidays as part of the 'Sportivate' programme encouraging girls
who don't currently play netball to go along and have a go. Leopards were there to take part in match
play and to also chat to the girls in the programme about their love of netball and to try and encourage
the girls to continue.
The final session promised an appearance by a Sporting Champion, and the girls were delighted that it was
attended byHertfordshire Mavericks and England player Lindsay Keable who often paused the match play to
share her knowledge.
Leopards were invited to attend for match play A well organised evening and a fantastic experience for
the girls.

Wisbech Summer League Junior Tournament
For the first time Hampton Netball Club entered four teams into the Wisbech Summer League tournament on July 20th. Panthers entered at U16's (their final junior tournament), Leopards and Pumas entered at U14's and our newly formed Jaguars entered the
Year 7's group.
With limited players due to the holiday period this ensured lots of match play for all. Pumas were the only team to have subs and as Leopards were short Phoebe was asked to join them for the day.

Panthers -
With Beth picking up an ankle injury in the first half of the second match it was obvious she was in a great deal of pain, but with guts and determination she continued to play (and no one was going to tell her otherwise) and helped Panthers secure a place in the final against Rookies. An exciting match that saw Panthers take a convincing lead in the first half. However, Rookies improved their game in the second half and closed the gap a little. With time running out Rookies were unable to equal the score and the match ended 8 - 6 to Panthers making them U16's Tournament Winners!
Beth took a trip to A & E straight after and unfortunately it was confirmed that she had received a fracture to her ankle.
Big thanks to guest player Abbie for helping Panthers out.

Leopards -
Availability of players meant that Leopards had to borrow Phoebe from Pumas and also bring in a guest player Georgia. Despite having never played with either of these two, Leopards had some excellent matches, they worked incredibly hard as a team and were encouraging throughout.
They played an impressive standard of netball and were rightly the winners of the U14's.
Congratulations also to Martha who was the most nominated 'Player of the Match' during the recent U16 Wisbech league.

Pumas -
Pumas started the day with having to lend one of their shooters to Leopards but despite that they had a fantastic tournament, coming 3rd to Leopards and Rookies, but being the only team not to lose to Leopards which was an excellent achievement.
The whole team were very strong from the defence who worked so hard to prevent any ball getting to the opposing shooters and to the attack who’s passing was fast and accurate with shooting that was impressive. The level of netball on show was a credit to them all.
Congratulations to Pumas who came runners up in the recent U13's Wisbech Summer league (by goal difference only)

Jaguars -
Jaguars had to bring in a guest player Jessica who proved to be an excellent addition to this very new but very strong Year 7 team. Due to availability of players a couple of girls were playing out of position but no one would have noticed.
This was great netball, passes were accurate and not rushed, the girls were using the whole court, playing netball that you would not expect at this age group...good netball to watch.
They came an impressive 2nd to Rookies, being beaten by goal difference only, and that being a difference of only 1 goal!

Panthers win U16's Cambridgeshire County Cup
With a convincing win in every match of the group stages, Panthers secured a place in the semi final against MI7.
The opening couple of minutes saw MI7 take an early two goal lead. However, Panthers defenders Amy and Timmie soon put a stop to that, intercepting the passes into the semi circle and driving the ball through mid court onto shooters Phoebe and Karlie. It wasn't long before Panthers took the lead, scoring 4 goals within just two minutes of play!.....final score 10 - 7 to Panthers and confidently through to the final against Rookies.
After six matches on the way to the final, seven pairs of tired legs took to court. Supporters from both teams looked on nervously. Rookies took an early lead scoring the first two goals and Panthers had to fight hard to pull it back. Tired limbs no more....Olivias long reach intercepted many balls, moving the ball quickly onto Megan or Tara who both accurately found the shooters who in turn converted to goals. A comfortable goal difference to secure the win...well done Panthers, a great team effort and a pleasure to watch!
Leopards finish 3rd place at U14's Cambridgeshire County Cup
With only one loss in the group stages, Leopards secured a place in the quarter finals against Co Jags B. A confident win saw them sail through to the semi final to face Co Jags A, the only team they had lost to earlier in the day.
Co Jags A took an early lead and at the end of the first half had a two goal lead. A few words from Coach Helen at half time lifted their spirits a little and they took to court with more fight than the first half. Leopards managed to equal the goals scored in the second half. However, with Co Jags A securing the early two goal lead there just wasn't enough time to pull it back. A much improved second half with great team spirit...well done Leopards!
Tough Tournament for Pumas
Entering their first county tournament as a new team, U14's Puma’s played some really good netball against some high class opposition. Unfortunately they were not able to win a match but had two really close matches against far more experienced teams. They showed great character and really bonded as a team. The results may not have been brilliant but the experience gained made it worth their efforts.

Victory for Panthers at PGL
It was an action packed weekend that started with abseiling and high ropes as a warm up before the netball competition got under way in the afternoon. With their new kit receiving some envious glances, Panthers won three of the five games scheduled that afternoon in style. Sunday continued with some rifle shooting before playing their final game of preliminaries which they won comfortably 16-3. While goal difference and average goals were taken into consideration it was a nervous wait to see if they had got through to the final…they had, but only just by 0.3 of a goal!
With a surprise visit from Hertfordshire Mavericks and England Squad member 'Sasha Corbin', the girls prepared for the final against Dudley Netball Club who they had lost to on the Saturday. Panthers came out fighting, they battled for every ball and rebound securing an early lead. Dudley were not able to get back on level terms and Panthers were able to keep the pressure on winning 7-5!
Tracey, Coach for the weekend said "This is the best netball I've seen Panthers play, they are a true asset to Hampton Ladies Netball Club and we are all very proud of their achievement".

'Promotion for Panthers'
Congratulations to 'Panthers' who have just been promoted to Division 1 of the Hunts & Peterborough Adult Netball League after finishing top of their table with a convincing win in every match! They will now have to be on top form as they face more experienced teams all competing for a place in the Cambs County Premier League. Good Luck Panthers!
Wanted.....Budding Netballers - Year 7
Starting in April 2014 we will be running a new training session for Year 7 netball players with a view to playing competitively in the Winter. The club currently has three junior teams, (one U16’s and two U14's) and
would like to ensure the current levels when the U16's girls move to the Adult Leagues in the Summer.
This new session will weekly from Monday 7th April, 6 - 7pm at the training courts on Beaumont Way, Hampton Hargate.
This is a great opportunity for players to progress to club netball.
Over the years since the junior squads were developed we've had a consistent level of players through the club, some getting into Cambridgeshire Netball Academy at County and Regional Level. We enter teams into the Wisbech U16's/U14's Summer League and Cambs County Winter Youth League as well as attending Tournaments which encourage interaction and fun throughout the season.

Cambs County Youth League Winners - April 2013
Hampton Juniors took part in the Cambridgeshire Under 15's Youth League recently and for this league the team was made up from a mix of Panthers and Jaguars (Tara, Phoebe, Amy, Megan, Olivia, Ellie, Timi, Karlie, Milly, Ellie and Grace). The final match of the league was against Comberton 'A', and as both teams were unbeaten so far this match would decide the winners of the league.
Match Report from Helen, Coach
Hampton got off to a good start getting a couple of goals ahead and although Comberton were strong they never quite made up for their slower start. The score was very low showing just how strong both defences were and there were no easy goals for either side. Hampton had a particularly effective defense which resulted in several three second calls against Comberton. Mid court formed a strong unit, supporting each other making the second move, and moving the ball well up the court into the semi circle. The movement in both circles was extremely tight with millimetres between a good pass and an interception. The communication within the shooting circle worked well with Tara and Phoebe rotating and working hard to make themselves available for the pass.
A thrilling, high standard of Netball played by two very well matched teams resulting in a 20 - 18 win to Hampton Juniors. A physical game at times, but Hampton really pushed themselves to achieve a high number of interceptions and turnovers. This really was a team effort and each player should be very proud of their performance.
Congratulations... you deserved the win for the hard work you put in!!
